As boys, George, the son of a Midlands vicar, and Arthur, living in shabby genteel Edinburgh, find themselves in a vast and complex world at the heart of the British Empire. Years later—one struggling with his identity in a world hostile to his ancestry, the other creating the world’s most famous detective while in love with a woman who is not his wife–their fates become inextricably connected.

In Arthur & George, Julian Barnes explores the grand tapestry of late-Victorian Britain to create his most intriguing and engrossing novel yet.

Everyone knows Sherlock Homes, but did you really know some facts about his author? About Sir Conan Doyle? When, I was a little, I love so much his books. But I don´t know about author anything. When  one day I went into the local library, far from being I have no idea, that I find into this litlle house so much beautiful book like this.

When I saw this book, thoughtfully I examined it. And after a couple of minutes, I took this book to my house.

Immediately after first page, I realized the fact - i love this book. Really lot. The story of two boys, from such differents words, I loved.  For much of the parts of book, Barnes cuts quickly between these two boys - Arthur, one on George - meticulousy mapping their journey before they finally meet. You might ( of course!) expect along the way, from this author, some trickery, but Barnes sometimes arrives here witch an absolute formal clarity. And Barnes, has a sure feel for Conan Doyle´s sence of propriety, duty and life.

His prose, and, particularly, his facility with dialogue, is a kind of homage to the stateliness of late Victorian letters, and in partcular, for the creator of Sherlock Holmes, whose great gift was his ability to embed his narrative in speech.

The fiction detective story has everything, what I expect from the quality book. Barnes work has  incredible  potential. I have been rather impressed of Julian Barnes, who has taken the bones of a long - dead history and imbue of them with vivid and memorable life.  Barnes work is one of the best book, which I read in this year.
